Project Details
The City of Bushnell is a small central Florida rural community of about 3,500 residents, located just south of The Villages in Sumter County. The residential growth of The Villages is influencing the expansion of commercial properties toward Bushnell, demanding the expansion of utility infrastructure. Bushnell maintains their own utilities including water, wastewater, and electric, each a part of this expansion. Part of this is relying on a GIS to map and manage their asset inventory. To assist in this effort, GISaaS migrated and consolidated their existing, localized, electric utilities GIS into the latest ESRI Solution, implementing the “Electric Distribution Data Management” data model. Our services include hosting their electric GIS on our dedicated cloud-based GIS server and serving this data to the city’s ArcGIS Online portal. This facilitates map access, web-based editing and field operations editing using tablets and ESRI’s Field Maps application.
To help them focus on their utilities, GISaaS serves as the city’s GIS department (for electric assets), managing GIS layers, maps and applications that serve the city’s administration, operations, and help them manage the utility infrastructure necessary to serve their residents and provide for growth.
Bushnell is one of 32 member cities of FMPA, the Florida Municipal Power Agency. Recognizing the need for GIS services for their smaller members, FMPA contracted with GISaaS to facilitate providing GIS-related services to their members.
